- Illnesses have occurred since early March 2025, the outbreak remains active with continued reporting.
- Multiple Salmonella serotypes are involved (e.g., S. Agona, S. Anatum, S. Havana, S. Mbandaka, etc.) which collectively point to environmental- and/or facility-level contamination.
- Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) responses include:
- Temporary ban on pistachio and pistachio product imports from Iran effective Sept. 27, 2025.
- Mandatory Salmonella testing for Iranian pistachios already in Canada before they can be sold.
- Extensive recall notices covering a growing number of pistachio products and items made with implicated pistachios continue on a weekly basis
