Introducing a new straightforward agar-based method for screening Trichophyton spp. for susceptibility to terbinafine (TRB) and itraconazole (ITC).
The new Derma-SR-Screen is a 4-well panel containing two antifungals incorporated into an agar medium. Terbinafine is present in two different concentrations 0.016 mg/L and 0.125 mg/L whereas Itraconazole is present in a concentration of 1 mg/L. The fourth well is a positive control.
To use, simply prepare a 0.5 McFarland turbidity suspension of microconidia prepared from a pure dermatophyte culture grown on a dermatophyte culture medium supplemented with cycloheximide and chloramphenicol. Inoculate each of the four wells in the Derma-SR-Scree, after 5-7 days incubation at 25°C-28°C, the panel can be visually assessed for any growth in each well.
Derma-SR-screen is not for use directly with clinical or other specimens.
