New Ultra Sensitive HIV Test Launched

Detect-HIV™ (v.4), developed by Adaltis, is an ultra-sensitive test providing for even earlier detection of HIV infection.

The HIV virus is most easily transmitted to others during the initial period of acute HIV infection, when the viral load is especially high and when people are not yet aware of having been contaminated by the virus. The use of ultra-sensitive tests, like the Detect-HIV™ (v.4), avoids the risk of failing to detect primary infections, and the resulting earlier detection enables immediate precautionary measures to be taken. Earlier detection of HIV infection also ensures the implementation of early antiretroviral therapy to slow down the progression of the HIV infection, thereby improving patient care and quality of life.

Detect-HIV™ (v.4) is an ultra-sensitive test offering a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of greater than 99.5%, for detection of all HIV types and subtypes tested. Adaltis expects to obtain the CE-mark (European registration) for this product by the end of 2005.
