The Puritan® Fecal Opti-Swab® Collection & Transport System is designed for the reliable collection, transport, and preservation of fecal and rectal specimens used in gastrointestinal diagnostics.
Each system includes a 2 mL vial of Cary-Blair transport medium, a trusted formulation for maintaining the viability of enteric pathogenic bacteria during transport. The medium is contained in a 12 x 80 mm screw-cap polypropylene tube with a high-visibility orange cap, ensuring secure containment, extended shelf life, and easy identification throughout clinical and laboratory workflows.
At the core of the system is Puritan’s patented HydraFlock® swab (25-3506-H). Engineered with high-performance synthetic fibers, HydraFlock® swabs feature increased surface area to efficiently collect and elute more specimen than traditional spun fiber swabs. Greater sample recovery supports improved diagnostic accuracy, helping laboratories generate more reliable results from every specimen collected.
Designed for versatility, the Fecal Opti-Swab® system is FDA 510(k) cleared for sale in the United States and CE marked for sale in the European Union. When validated by test manufacturers and/or laboratories, it is suitable for a wide range of downstream applications, including:
