IDEXX Water Introduces UV Viewer PLUS™

IDEXX, a world leader in water microbiology testing, has launched the UV Viewer PLUS to improve the process of result interpretation when using IDEXX fluorescing tests.

When samples are tested using the Colilert®, Enterolert®, Pseudalert® and other IDEXX methods, positive results of contamination after incubation may be indicated through fluorescence. Using the new UV Viewer PLUS will streamline and accelerate the interpretation process for laboratory personnel and operators.

The UV Viewer PLUS has been designed to block out greater levels of ambient light than traditional viewing cabinets and, for samples being tested using the IDEXX Quanti-Tray® methods, the large viewing area allows two Quanti-Trays to be read simultaneously. The unit contains multiple strips of energy-efficient long-life UV LED lights instead of traditional, mercury-containing UV bulbs, meaning the sample is surrounded by UV light from all angles.

From an environmental standpoint, LEDs consume less power than incandescent UV light sources, which also need replacing periodically and often require specialised, and costly, disposal. Additionally, the power button on the UV Viewer PLUS illuminates when the LED lights are on, reducing the chances of operators accidentally leaving the unit powered up when not in use.

IDEXX Water testing solutions deliver easy, rapid, accurate and cost-effective information on water quality to laboratories, public utilities, and facilities managers. Colilert-18 (ISO 9308-2) gives confirmed results of the presence of coliforms and E. coli in just 18 hours, and Pseudalert® (ISO 16266-2) provides 24-hour detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Enterolert offers 24 hour detection of enterococci in a variety of water matrices – and all tests can be used to quantify the levels of bacterial contamination when used in conjunction with the IDEXX Quanti-Tray.
