Vaccination, Serology and GP Lavage - How to Combine Tools to Keep Strangles at Bay

: 1 Jun 2023

Sector : Veterinary

Type : Webinar

Pre-movement testing for Streptococcus equi has become widely recommended with livery yards requiring serology before horses arrive. However, as many have found, it does not prevent strangles outbreaks associated with new arrivals, nor are those results as black and white as owners would like. Guttural pouch lavage has much greater sensitivity for identifying carriers but can also cause confusion when pathology is identified and Streptococcus equi zooepidemicus is identified.

During this webinar, Mark Bowen BVetMed MMedSci(MedEd) PhD CertVA CertEM(IntMed) DipACVIM-LAIM DipECEIM PFHEA FRCVS will review how to use laboratory testing and vaccination in the development of disease-free status in different yards. It will consider quarantine, testing and the new vaccine.
