Hygiena® Announces Issuance of a New US Patent for SalQuant®

Hygiena is pleased to announce that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has recently granted patent number 11,634,782; U.S. Patent Application No. 16/549,059; and the official registered trademark to protect BAX® System SalQuant. The patent has been effective since April 23, 2023.

Hygiena’s patented SalQuant, which was developed to meet increased demand for Salmonella quantification in One Health Diagnostics™ applications, serves as an alternative to traditional, time-consuming methods. Using this multipurpose tool, processors can quantify Salmonella from the farm to final product to improve and verify sanitation and antimicrobial intervention processes to meet more stringent regulatory and quality standards while protecting consumers by knowing the risk a positive sample could pose.

Designed by food industry customers, for food industry customers, SalQuant accommodates their top needs such as simplified workflows and faster time-to-results that will support their food safety plans. The patented system leverages molecular methods to enumerate Salmonella contamination in many common food matrices, including beef, pork, poultry, environmentals, produce and seafood. It provides food companies with a data-driven decision for pathogen testing that is rapid, reliable and offers increased accuracy.

Commenting on the patent, Hygiena Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Patrice Chablain said: “The addition of this recent patent underscores our commitment to innovation in advancing seamless, easy-to-follow diagnostic tools that answer every step of the quantification workflow while minimizing cost of resource investment. As experts in quantification, we believe we hold one of the most robust rapid methods that provides quantitative data on contamination levels. SalQuant enables an accelerated time-to-result for pathogen testing that generates faster decision-making, improved productivity and competitive advantage with reduced quantitation results from several days to 12 hours.”

“This new patent not only strengthens our intellectual property position in quantification but also confirms our strategic commitment to developing innovative diagnostics that improve the health of people and animals in our shared environment,” concluded Amanda Manolis, Vice President Global Marketing and Product Management at Hygiena.
