NCIMB Major UK Repository for Environmental Bacteria
go back to news archives The National Collection of Industrial, Food and Marine Bacteria (NCIMB) is the major UK repository for environmental bacteria. These are sourced from a variety of habitats worldwide and have a wide range of potential uses. Bacteria held by NCIMB can be used in disinfectant testing and the production of antibiotics or industrial enzymes, as well as for bioremediation, bio-assay and food production processes and many other applications. |
New additions As an important genetic resource centre, we always welcome new additions to our collection. To enhance our comprehensive collection, we are pleased to accept non-pathogenic organisms from a wide variety of environments. Organisms with novel properties, enzymes or metabolites are particularly welcomed. Patent deposits NCIMB has been an International Depository Authority (IDA) under the Budapest Treaty for over 30 years. Our staff are therefore highly experienced and can provide expert advice on how to deposit and maintain your valuable strains in a secure environment. Safe deposits If you have key strains which you would like to have professionally preserved, with control over their distribution, we offer a safe deposit facility. Secure storage Key industrial cultures or other high value strains can be housed and maintained by NCIMB to cGMP, in our secure facility.
