New NCIMB Video Demonstrates Ampoule Opening

NCIMB manages a unique collection of more than 8600 reference cultures, most of which are supplied freeze dried in sealed glass ampoules.

The ampoules contain a strip of filter paper impregnated with freeze dried culture. Once the ampoule has been opened, the strip can be dropped directly into or onto the appropriate medium.

While a range of our most commonly used QC cultures are also available in easy-to-use screw top vials and the MicroSnap format, for the majority of reference cultures in our collection, glass ampoules are still the most appropriate solution.

Feedback from our clients has indicated that some would welcome training on how to use the ampoules, and in response we have produced a video that clearly demonstrates the correct procedure for breaking the glass and use of the strips. Although the requirement to break glass ampoules may make them seem a little more daunting than other formats, they really are quite straightforward to use, and we hope that our video illustrates that.

The video can be found on our website at www.ncimb.com along with a searchable catalogue of our reference cultures and an extensive collection of media recipes.
