NCIMB's has recently been successful in extending its ISO 9001:2000 scope of registration to include its new microbiotest product line and eco-toxicological analysis service.

The MARA (Microbial Array for Toxic Risk Assessment) system has been developed by NCIMB in collaboration with the Karolinska Institute in Sweden to address the growing global, environmental and ecotox testing market.

MARA's patented technology platform provides an innovative development in toxicity testing by providing a unique multi-species array of eleven genetically diverse micro-organisms which gives a microbial toxic concentration (MTC) 'fingerprint' for toxic evaluation of chemicals and environmental samples. The MARA test represents a significant improvement on conventional single species toxicity assays.
