AFNOR Approved Listeria Testing in Foods

Listeria Media

Thermo Scientific Listeria Rapid Culture Method has been validated according to ISO 16140 by AFNOR (Association Française pour la Normalisation) against the ISO horizontal methods for detection and enumeration of Listeria monocytogenes in food and environmental samples1,2,3.

The Thermo Scientific Listeria Rapid Culture Method Combines the enhanced sensitivity of ONE Broth-Listeria and the superior specificity of Thermo Scientific Chromogenic Listeria Agar (OCLA) to provide a simple 48 hour method to detect Listeria in food and environmental samples. ONE Broth-Listeria allows optimal resuscitation, recovery and growth of even low numbers of Listeria species from a single, 24-hour enrichment incubation. The enriched sample is plated directly onto a single OCLA Plate. OCLA detects ß-glucosidase activity, common to all Listeria species, and the lecithinase activity of L. monocytogenes and pathogenic L. ivanovii. This allows the detection and differentiation of L. monocytogenes and other Listeria species from samples in only 48 hours - up to three days earlier than traditional culture methods.

The use of just one broth and a single agar plate reduces 'hands-on' time and can lead to a reduced cost per sample.
