New Improved Premi®Test Salmonella Serotyping from DSM

DSM, in close cooperation with Checkpoints, has worked intensively over the last 6 months to improve the performance of the Premi®Test Salmonella, an easy-to-use serotyping method for routine use. Several national reference laboratories have now tested the new version which can identify an increased number of serotypes: At the moment the test can identify 78 Salmonella serotypes!!

In addition to this, results can be obtained within 1 working day after the enrichment phase. So if a sample is positive for Salmonella, the Premi®Test Salmonella can report the serotype within one working day!

The approach of DSM with this new improved product is to support our customers, laboratories and integrators, to help reduce Salmonella contamination in the food chain. By serotyping the organism, the source of contamination can be detected and then eradicated.

For this project we have worked together with a consultant who has more than 20 years experience in the (poultry) food chain and has succeeded in reducing Salmonella contamination to less than 0.1% at a major poultry processor. This has been achieved by serotyping isolates and demonstrates that the food industry can reduce the amount of Salmonella contamination using this approach.

A new scientific paper is about to be published, so laboratories doing Salmonella serotyping can have more confidence when starting to use the Premi®Test Salmonella.

If you would like some more information on how the Premi®Test Salmonella can help you reduce the incidence of Salmonella, please do not hesitate to contact us or visit our website, contact details and website link are at the top of this page.
