New Range of Ready to Use Chromogenic Media

Colorex MRSA
E&O Laboratories has launched a new Chromogenic range of ready prepared media formulated by the French pioneer Dr Alain Rambach.

The well known brand of CHROMagar is sold worldwide and is now available as a ready-to-use media from E&O under the brand name of Colorex™. The demand for clinical chromogenic media, especially MRSA, has increased significantly over the past five years. Our Colorex MRSA offers clinical microbiologists a fast (18 hours) and reliable medium for all routine screening of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

MRSA screening has increased the workload of the routine bacteriology laboratory ten fold and is a highly political issue within the NHS. 25% of all surgery related infections are caused by MRSA. Numerous publications have demonstrated the medium has a sensitivity and specificity close to 100%.
Following aerobic incubation at 37°C for 18-24 hours, mauve colonies indicate methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, including low level resistant strains. Other organisms, if present will be indicated by blue or colourless colonies.

Other Colorex Chromogenic media within the range include:
Candida

E.coli O157
