New Rapid Test from vermicon for Fast, Reliable Detection of Spoilage Yeasts

With VIT-Spoilage Yeasts vermicon presents a rapid test that allows for the first time worldwide, the fast and reliable detection of fermentative yeasts in non-alcoholic and mixed-drinks. This product extends vermicon's range of microbiological rapid tests for beverages.

The beverage industry continuously monitors the presence of fermentative yeasts (e.g. Saccharomyces, Zygosaccharomyces) as these undesirable microorganisms lead not only to clouding and off-flavours but also in extreme cases to product explosions, which pose a threat to consumer safety. For this reason fast, specific and absolutely reliable test results are necessary in daily quality control so that product release decisions can be effectively made.

VIT-Spoilage Yeasts easily meets all of these criteria. In addition the test allows both the general detection of living yeasts and the specific detection of fermentative yeasts.

In comparison to conventional methods the new test from vermicon leads to a time-saving of several days. At the same time the extremely specific test distinguishes between highly fermentative spoilage yeasts, which quickly lead to a deterioration of the product, and opportunistic spoilage yeasts (where the possibility of deterioration depends on the product conditions).

VIT-Spoilage Yeasts is based on the VIT® gene probe technology, the proven and reliable detection system developed by vermicon. Gene probes are programmed to detect only living fermentative yeasts. Even small quantities of yeasts are reliably detected. The gene probes bind to the living fermentative yeasts and cause them to light up under a fluorescence microscope. The user-friendly dropper bottles make the test simple to perform and the analysis requires only a few minutes of handling.
