Neogens veratox for don 2 3 receives aoac approval
Neogen Corporation has received approval from the AOAC Research Institute for its quantitative Veratox® for DON 2/3 test kit (AOAC-RI 090901).
Veratox for DON 2/3 provides exact levels of DON (a.k.a., deoxynivalenol), a natural toxin produced by molds, in the range of 0.5 to 5 parts per million (ppm). After a simple water extraction, the test produces clear sample results after two incubations that together total only 5 minutes. The test's performance has been verified for testing wheat, rice, barley, malted barley, corn, and oats.
'We're very pleased that AOAC has confirmed the quality of our Veratox for DON 2/3 test system-especially now that we are receiving reports of high levels of DON in harvested grain in isolated pockets of the United States,' said Ed Bradley, Neogen's vice president of Food Safety. 'This approval for Veratox for DON 2/3 makes it the fastest quantitative DON test available with both AOAC and GIPSA approvals.'
The USDA's Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) has also verified the performance of Neogen's Veratox for DON 2/3. GIPSA's verification of Neogen's quantitative Veratox for DON 2/3 enables the test to be used for official testing in the national grain inspection system.
Neogen's full line of mycotoxin tests also includes the GIPSA-verified Reveal for DON SQ (semi-quantitative), which is designed to provide the easiest semi-quantitative results for DON available. After placing the strip test in a sample for only 5 minutes, and with the use of Neogen's unique Reveal AccuScan® III lateral flow test reader, sample results are returned as negative (less than 0.5 ppm of DON); 0.5 to 1 ppm; 1 to 2 ppm; or greater than 2 ppm of DON.
Earlier this year, Neogen has received approval from the AOAC Research Institute for its quantitative Veratox® for Aflatoxin test kit. Veratox for Aflatoxin provides exact levels of aflatoxin, a natural toxin produced by molds, in the range of 5-50 parts per billion (ppb). Neogen also offers simple lateral flow test for aflatoxin, the Reveal® for Aflatoxin and Reveal for Aflatoxin SQ-the easiest and quickest tests available. After a simple extraction, the Reveal for Aflatoxin test can provide a visual negative result in less than 2 minutes. All three aflatoxin tests have also been GIPSA-verified.
