Randox Antibiotic Seafood Screening Solutions

Seafood testing is now a crucial part of food safety as evidenced by recent reports of contaminated shrimp from Bangladesh that were reported to contain nitrofurans and chloramphenicol.

The UK aquaculture industry has a good track record in relation to food safety. Rigorous food analysis in conjunction with effective drug residue testing must take place worldwide. It is not enough to know that the seafood produced in our respective countries is safe, as due to the high amount of importing and exporting, the food on our shelves could possibly contain traces of antibiotic residues.

Most commonly abused antibiotics in the aquaculture industry today include oxytetracycline, sulphamerazine, sulphadiazine, trimethoprim and furazolidone. The presence of all of these antibiotics can be screened using the patented Randox multiplex screening platform. Randox Food Diagnostics Antimicrobial Multiplex Arrays I & II allow detection of 45 antibiotic compounds from drug classes such as sulphonamides, quinolones and tetracyclines using a very simple sample preparation (addition and mix of buffer to homogenised sample followed by centrifugation). One sample - one preparation - 45 tests.

Using the Randox Food Diagnostics Evidence Investigator analyser, the multiplex arrays enable high sample throughout and greatly improve laboratories efficiencies, including reducing labour time and costs.

Randox Food Diagnostics provide a comprehensive screening package for a wide of antibiotics residues in seafood. These screening solutions all offer excellent limit of detections along with a simple sample preparations.
