New Molecular Kit for Endocarditis Testing

New kit identifies more than 345 bacteria, yeasts and fungi.

Molzym has launched the first product for molecular identification of infectious Endocarditis worldwide. Endocarditis is an infection of the inner lining of the heart and typically occurs when bacteria spread through the bloodstream and attach to damaged areas in the heart. Left untreated, endocarditis can damage or destroy heart valves and can lead to life-threatening complications. Treatments for endocarditis include antibiotics and, in severe cases, surgery.

Unfortunately a great percentage of endocarditis causing bacteria does not grow in blood culture and therefore are difficult to diagnose. Culture-independent techniques such as SepsiTest™ now enable the identification of heart valve colonizing pathogens.
