IGEN Launches INTELLIGENT System for Food Safety Testing

IGEN International, Inc. announced that it will be introducing its new INTELLIGENT System at the annual meeting of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) being held in San Diego from June 30 to July 3, 2002.

The introduction of the INTELLIGENT System to the industrial food testing market marks the first commercial application of IGEN's M1 product line, which is based on the Company's proprietary ORIGEN® technology.

The new system is an automated analyzer designed for use with IGEN's PATHIGEN® test kits for the presumptive identification of foodborne pathogens. The easy-to-use system combines the benefits of pathogen detection with sample handling and software that reports positive or negative results automatically for samples in a standard format. The new system, along with IGEN's PATHIGEN test kits for E. coliO157, Salmonella, Listeria and Campylobacter, will be demonstrated at the the annual meeting of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) being held in San Diego from June 30 to July 3, 2002.

"We believe that the INTELLIGENT System represents the most sensitive pathogen detection system for the food testing market -- offering walk-away automation and reliable performance in an easy to use system," said Samuel J. Wohlstadter, IGEN's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "The new system is complemented by our strong portfolio of PATHIGEN tests including tests for E. coli O157, Salmonella, Campylobacter, and Listeria."
