Major Chicken Producer Chooses Warnex Genevision™ For Pathogen Testing

Genevision

Gold Kist Inc., the third largest chicken producer in the U.S., have decided to use Warnex's state-of-the-art Genevision technology to monitor the safety of its products. Under the terms of the agreement, Gold Kist will purchase Genevision equipment to test for the presence of Salmonella and Listeria.

The Genevision Rapid Pathogen Detection System uses cutting-edge DNA-based technology to rapidly and accurately determine the presence of pathogens in a given food sample. The system allows for the simultaneous detection of multiple pathogens and processing of samples within 24 to 48 hours, a significant improvement over traditional microbiology tests that currently require 5 to 7 days. The technology also includes unique software that analyzes the results and allows for immediate reporting throughout the organization of a contamination occurrence.

"We are excited about integrating the next generation of Real-Time PCR technology, offered by Genevision, into our laboratory testing program," said Todd Fickel, Laboratory Manager at Gold Kist. "Having used PCR technology for two years, we are convinced it is the most accurate rapid test method available to the food industry for detecting food-borne pathogens."
