Smashing Sample Preparation

Smasher Lab Blender Exclusive UK distributor Don Whitley Scientific has launched the AES Chemunex Smasher laboratory blender, completing the DWS sample preparation range that includes the WASP spiral plater, Dilumat gravimetric diluter and automatic colony counters.

One of the quietest blenders on the market, the Smasher's innovative, soundproof design significantly reduces the operating noise level up to 8 times lower than that of conventional models. The patent-pending 'Smash' effect is applied to crush the samples before peristaltic homogenisation takes place, providing optimal blending and ensuring the resulting suspension is representative of the sample's microbial population. Difficult samples are automatically masticated to avoid jams and the need to reposition the sample bag.

For easy cleaning, the leak-proof and corrosion-resistant blending chamber has rounded corners and is easily accessible via the wide opening door. All chamber and housing surfaces are extremely robust and resistant to chemical damage from cleaning agents, and the whole unit can be tilted back at 45° if required for improved access. The unique integrated waste drawer ensures spillages are contained so only the drawer requires cleaning, rather than the surface area of the laboratory bench.

The ergonomically designed Smasher combines comfort, quality and performance at an affordable price. Blending duration and speed are selected using an intuitive digital keyboard, and the elapsed time is displayed on screen both numerically and graphically. Time intervals ranging from 10 to 180 seconds can be set at three different speeds for maximum flexibility.
