New Fast Test for Detecting Campylobacter spp. Now Available from Bio-Rad.

Chicken source of Campylobacter sp
Bio-Rad launches a new real-time PCR kit for rapid detection of Campylobacter spp.

iQ-Check™ Campylobacter only requires a 24-hour enrichment in supplemented Bolton broth, greatly decreasing time to results over other methods, especially reference methods.

Campylobacter jejuni, C. coli and C. lari can all be detected with this kit. Together, these thermo-tolerant strains account for more than 99% of human isolates.
Campylobacter remains the leading cause worldwide of zoonotic disease in humans, surpassing Salmonella infections. Moreover, cases are still believed to be underreported. Often causing the same symptoms as Salmonella, such as mild to severe diarrhea, Campylobacter infections can also be an infectious trigger for the more serious Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

A distinct seasonality is also associated with Campylobacteriosis, and as days get warmer, a higher number of infections are reported. Campylobacters are carried in the intestinal tract of a variety of healthy wild and domestic animals especially birds. Surveys of raw retail chickens in different countries have shown that contaminations ranged anywhere from 11% to over 80%.

iQ-Check Campylobacter is a rapid solution for screening and determining the presence or absence of Campylobacter in poultry samples.

iQ-Check kits are based on automated real-time polymerase chain reaction (RTi-PCR) and detection, using specific probes for high accuracy and specificity of results. Other kits available are for Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, Listeria spp;, and E.coli O157:H7.

All kits have the same thermal protocol, so assays can be run at the same time on either a low throughput 48-well MiniOpticon™ or high throughput 96-well Chromo4™ systems.

  • Fast, next-day results for Campylobacter spp.

  • High specificity with probes and primers

  • Same thermal protocol as other iQ-Check kits

  • Systems available for low and high throughput labs
