The turn around time associated with organism identification will be greatly reduced with use of this new equipment. Results can be generated in as few as 7 days compared to the typical 15 day period using the MIDI system.

The Vitek 2 provides excellent identifications without confusion related to a high or low similarity index ratings. This instrument replaces the current MIDI system which provided identification using fatty acid profiling. With the MIDI system, Gas chromatography is utilized to establish a similarity index and often several organisms are identified as possible matches. Results using the new Vitek 2 system are generated based on biochemical comparisons. The instrument utilizes new Advanced Colorimetric Technology™ which enables the use of additional wavelengths in the identification process. The additional wavelengths provide more accurate results by increasing the number of biochemical tests evaluated in the identification process.
