Successful culture of anaerobic and microaerophilic organisms relies on achieving the right atmospheric conditions - a task which is easy to accomplish using Thermo Scientific’s Atmosphere Generation System (AGS).

The Thermo Scientific AGS range encompasses a choice of air-activated atmosphere-generating sachets and a choice of sealed containers for anaerobiosis. No catalysts are needed and no water is required.

Thermo Scientific AnaeroGen™ reacts rapidly to produce an atmosphere of <1% oxygen supplemented with carbon dioxide within 30 minutes, facilitating the culture of fastidious and obligate anaerobes. Thermo Scientific CampyGen™ produces a microaerobic atmosphere ideal for the growth of Campylobacter species, while Thermo Scientific CO₂Gen™ achieves an enriched aerobic environment which improves the growth of fastidious organisms such as Haemophilus and Neisseria species.

Plates can be sealed, cultured and transported in the specifically-designed AnaeroJar™. Thermo Scientific AnaeroGen™, CampyGen™ and CO₂Gen™ are also available in ‘Compact’ formats which facilitate the culturing of small batches of plates in transparent pouches.

Thermo Scientific AGS products quickly create the required gaseous conditions without generating hydrogen, safely facilitating the prompt identification of cultures by maximising recovery and colony size. The system is quick and easy to use without any requirement for investment in capital equipment. Use of non-hazardous chemicals also means that there are no hazardous material transport fees to pay.
