| Legionella Agar, BCYE (8065) The standard base media containing all necessary growth supplements for the cultivation and maintenance of your Legionella cultures. Legionella Selective Agar, BMPA (8066) This semi selective agar can be used for the isolation of Legionella pneumophila from contaminated clinical and environmental samples Legionella Selective Agar, MWY (8067) This selective media contains a range of selective agents and dyes that will colour the target colonies aiding in their identification. This media has been used successfully with clinical samples, potable water samples and may also be used with environmental samples when they have been prepared using acid and heat treatments. Legionella Selective Agar, GVPC (8068) When used in conjunction with acid and heat pre-treatments, GVPC has been reported as the most successful media for the isolation of Legionella spp. from environmental water samples. This formulation has also been adopted by ISO and is now included in the International Standard, ISO 11731:1998(E). Water Quality - Detection & Enumeration of Legionella. Legionella Selective Agar, GVPN (7593) An alternative to GVPC. With Health and Safety concerns over the safe use of cycloheximide in culture media, natamycin, a commonly used anti-fungal agent in the food industry was found to be a suitable alternative for cycloheximide. GVPN has been demonstrated to isolate Legionella spp. from environmental water samples as well as GVPC. Legionella Agar, BCYE without L-cysteine (8060) Legionella spp. have an absolute growth requirement for L-cysteine and without this amino acid Legionella spp. are unable to grow. As detailed in ISO 11731, suspected isolates from selective media should be subcultured onto BCYE (8065) and this media. Those isolates that grow on BCYE but fail to grow on this media may be presumptively identified as Legionella. |
