ITL Corporation have two videos (drop method and syringe method) showing how their Safety SubCulture Unit (SCU) can be used to obtain samples from positive blood culture bottles without the risk of needlestick injury.
Safety SubCulture Unit (SCU) is a needleless subculture device used to obtain samples from positive blood culture bottles. Needleless sampling reduces risk of needlestick injury. The plastic tip safely pierces the bottle septum and makes it easy to insert and remove from the culture bottle, while the integrated filter cap controls gas or culture discharge for an added level of safety. SCU offers unique sampling methods such as a sampling channel designed to dispense drops directly from a tilted culture bottle or the use of a female luer connection for needleless syringe draw and dispensing technique.
