BBL™ CHROMagar™ STAPH AUREUS Identifies Staphylococcus aureus Without Additional Confirmatory Testing

BD Diagnostic Systems, Sparks, MD, announces the release of BBL™ CHROMagar™ Staph aureus, a chromogenic medium that utilizes an enzymatic reaction to isolate and identify Staphylococcus aureus without additional confirmatory testing.

BBL™ CHROMagar™ Staph aureus produces easy to identify mauve-colored colonies with the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. It also requires less technologist time, especially with colonies which exhibit weak hemolysis or atypical appearances on traditional media.

BBL™ CHROMagar™ Staph aureus is the latest addition to the BBL CHROMagar™ media line, which already includes CHROMagar™ Orientation, CHROMagar™ Candida and CHROMagar™ Salmonella. BBL™ CHROMagar™ Staph aureus eliminates the need to subculture to a non-selective medium, thereby reducing consumable costs, enhancing workflow and allowing susceptibility results to be reported earlier. In addition, a recent clinical study has shown an increased recovery of 11% with BBL™ CHROMagar™ Staph aureus compared to Mannitol Salt agar.1
