Invitrogen Presents Effective Solutions for Concentration and Isolation of Salmonella Serovars B-Z.

Image

Recent outbreaks of Salmonella infections in Europe highlights the need for an effective means of isolating Salmonella spp. from food and environmental samples.

Dynabeads® from Invitrogen have long been recognized worldwide as the gold standard magnetic beads for performing immunomagnetic separation.

Dynabeads® anti-Salmonella are designed for rapid selective concentration of Salmonella directly from pre-enriched samples. The product can be used for testing food, water, feed and environmental samples and there is a specific protocol for isolation of Salmonella from eggs.

Dynabeads® anti-Salmonella can either replace or supplement the use of a selective enrichment broth stage.

Methodology
After an 18-24h pre-enrichment in Buffered Peptone Water at 37°C, immunomagnetic separation can be performed either manually, using an MX1 mixer and an MPC-S magnet, or the process can be automated using the Invitrogen BeadRetriever™ instrument. The automated process is fast, easy to use & all the capture and washing steps are totally contained within the instrument. Up to 15 samples can be processed simultaneously with a 1 hour IMS protocol.

Following IMS, the Dynabeads® anti-Salmonella and captured target organisms can be plated directly onto standard Salmonella selective plating media. Identification of suspect colonies following incubation can be confirmed using standard biochemical and serological methods.
