USDA approves Neogen's Reveal for DON SQ

The USDA's Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) has verified the performance of another of Neogen's simple and accurate tests for deoxynivalenol (a.k.a., DON and vomitoxin). GIPSA's approval of Neogen's Reveal® for DON SQ enables the simple lateral flow strip test to be used for official testing in the national grain inspection system.

DON is one of the most widely regulated natural toxins in the world, and Neogen's GIPSA-approved Reveal for DON SQ is the easiest and quickest test available for DON. The current approval covers the use of the test kit to screen wheat samples at 2 parts per million. After a simple water extraction, clear sample results can be read in only 5 minutes.

“ Neogen's tests for mycotoxins have set the gold standard for many years, and our improvements serve to make our market-best tests only better,” said Ed Bradley, Neogen's vice president of Food Safety. “ GIPSA's approval allows regulators to add our improved test to the expanding list of Neogen's products they can rely on to ensure the safety of our worldwide food and feed supply. Our newly approved test will be especially useful to those for whom speed is of the essence.”

Reveal for DON SQ (semi-quantitative) was designed to provide the easiest semi-quantitative results for DON available. After placing the strip test in a sample for only 5 minutes, and with the use of Neogen's unique Reveal AccuScan® III lateral flow test reader, sample results are returned as negative (less than 0.5 ppm of DON); 0.5 to 1 ppm; 1 to 2 ppm; or greater than 2 ppm of DON.

Neogen's also offers Reveal® for Aflatoxin and Reveal for Aflatoxin SQ-the easiest and quickest test available for aflatoxin, the most widely regulated mycotoxin. After a simple extraction, the Reveal Aflatoxin test can provide a negative result in less than 2 minutes. Neogen is the only company that markets tests that use the same extraction to both screen (results that clearly show if the sample is above or below the 20 ppb limit) and quantitate a sample's exact level of aflatoxin.

Neogen's Reveal AccuScan III System is an easy-to-use handheld lateral flow test reader. It consists of a lateral flow test reader combined with a personal data assistant (PDA), and intuitive data management computer software.
