Proceedings from Hot Topics in Microbiology Conference
The proceedings from the recent CCFRA conference 'Hot Topics in Microbiology' held in Oct 2004 are now available for purchase. Containing a short summary of each presentation together with copies of the visual aids used on the day, the proceedings provide an overview of recent microbiological developments of particular interest to the food and drinks industry. In addition to a look at viruses and protozoa, Dr John Lee of Health Protection Agency, UK. presented 'Legionella what the food industry should know' . The proceedings also contain a good summary of the scope of AOAC RI, AFNOR and NordVal, with speakers from each giving the background and current activities of their authorities. Issues of concern to the fresh food sector are addressed with a couple of talks including one on 'An overview on fresh produce: microbiological risks and concerns by Professor Beuchat, Center for Food Safety, University of Georgia, USA. The conference ended with a session on 'What has Microbiological Risk Assessment (MRA) got to offer industry?
