Food Microbiology Specialists Required
| Alaska Food Diagnostics Ltd is a company specialising in ultra-sensitive rapid detection of pathogens in food. It's fastrAK detection system is based on innovative technology developed by Dstl, a world renowned centre of scientific research and development. FastrAK delivers automated same day rapid screening for a variety of food and beverage products. To support our growth and success, we are currently looking for:- | | FOOD ANALYST - SENIOR SCIENTIST | | Role & Responsibilities | | Reporting to - - Head of Microbiology R&D | | Designing and implementing R&D programmes | | Guiding a team of R&D Scientists to achieve Alaska's assay development objectives | | Planning and managing laboratory resources for each R&D programme | | | Key Skills & Experience | | Master of Science degree or Doctorate or equivalent experience in Life Science. | | 5-6 years of R&D experience in a food microbiological sciences laboratory (preferably in assay development in a commercial setting) | | Familiarity with the necessary analytical techniques, the development and production of biological reagents and with complex scientific instrumentation | | A track record of successfully managed R&D projects, whether funded commercially or by grants | | FOOD MICROBIOLOGICAL SCIENTIST | | Role & Responsibilities | | Reporting to - Head of Microbiology R&D | | Microbiology R&D trials | | Laboratory organisation, maintenance and Quality Control | | Scale up lab production batches up to industrial production quantities | | Designing and carrying out complex experiments with Cat 2 pathogens, allergens, spoilage organisms and food samples | | | Key Skills & Experience | | Master of Science degree or Doctorate or equivalent experience in Life Science | | 3-4 years of experience in a (food) microbiological sciences laboratory (preferably in assay development in a commercial setting) or in an ISO accredited lab | | Familiarity with all the necessary analytical techniques, ISO 9001 Quality Assurance standards and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) | | Familiarity with the development and production of biological reagents | | High level of competence in working and maintaining complex scientific instrumentation | | FOOD MICROBIOLOGICAL TECHNICIAN | | Role & Responsibilities | | Reporting to - Head of Microbiology R&D | | Laboratory organisation and maintenance | | R&D trials and routine microbiological analysis of food | | Scheduling and ordering the materials required for laboratory trials | | | Key Skills & Experience | | Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent, at grade 2.2 or better | | 3-4 years of experience in a microbiological sciences laboratory | | Experienced in routine microbiological analysis of food | | Familiarity with identification procedures, including staining/microscope, biochemical/serological tests etc. | | Familiarity with all the necessary analytical techniques, ISO 9001 Quality Assurance standards and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) | Competitive salary and benefits depending on experience Apart from presenting a wide variety of career development opportunities, Alaska's location on Dstl's Science Park near Salisbury offers access to a number of attractive amenities including a gym, squash and tennis courts, staff restaurant and social club as well as crèche facilities (depending on available spaces).
