Lab M Offers Range of Campylobacter Culture Media

Campylobacter blood free selective medium

Campylobacter remains one of the most common causes of infectious intestinal disease. Lab M's range of culture media includes Campylobacter Blood Free Selective Medium (modified CCDA) and Campylobacter Enrichment Broth (Bolton formulation).

Campylobacter Blood Free Selective Medium will support the growth of most enteric Campylobacter. An improved version of CCDA (charcoal-cefoperazone-deoxycholate agar), this formulation is selective for C. coli, C. jejuni and C. lari at 37oC, making incubation at 42oC unnecessary.

Campylobacter Enrichment Broth is a selective enrichment broth for the isolation of Campylobacter spp. from food, environmental samples and faeces. This product enhances the recovery of sub-lethally damaged organisms and has been shown to give appreciably better results than Preston Broth.

As one of the principal organisms reported as the cause of infectious intestinal disease, Campylobacter is of paramount importance to both clinical and food microbiologists. Primarily associated with undercooked meat and poultry, Campylobacter infection is characterised by severe diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Campylobacter coli and Campylobacter jejuni are the most common causative species of illness.
