New Broth Medium for Safer Cultivation of Fastidious Organisms
Thermo Scientific Limited has further extended the comprehensive range of Thermo Scientific Culture Media with the addition of Heart Infusion Broth (CM1032) - a highly nutritious liquid medium for the cultivation of streptococci, pneumococci, meningococci and other fastidious organisms.
Developed to give performance characteristics equivalent to Brain Heart Infusion Broth, new Thermo Scientific Heart Infusion Broth is free from bovine brain material.
Though the bovine brain used in Thermo Scientific Brain Heart Infusion Broth is not Specified Risk Material (SRM), its exclusion in Heart Infusion Broth may ease potential regulatory issues for the user in certain applications.
In addition to the cultivation of streptococci, pneumococci, meningococci and other fastidious organisms, Thermo Scientific Heart Infusion Broth can be supplemented with yeast extract, haemin and menadione to improve the growth of Bacteroides spp. Simple additions to this medium will also make it suitable for blood culture or the cultivation of yeasts and moulds.
