New MRSA-ID for Culture, Isolation and Identification on One Plate

bioMérieux SA have launched a new product for rapid, reliable identification of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

Available as a ready-to-use media, MRSA ID uses a combination of two principles:

  • identification of S. aureus bacteria directly on the culture medium based on the spontaneous green colouration produced by a specific enzyme of this bacteria (bioMérieux proprietary technology)
  • the use of cefoxitin, a recent method for the detection of methicillin resistance.

The advantages of MRSA-ID are:

Greater Rapidity
Immediate identification of MRSA as Green colonies after 18-24 hours incubation; no additional reagents are required*

Greater Reliability
Excellent performance for the screening of MRSA in terms of nutrient capacity, detection sensitivity and colouration specificity
Detection of MRSA strains, including hetero-resistant strains, with the presence of cefoxitin
Selective inhibition of most bacteria not be longing to the genus Staphylococcus, as well as yeasts

Greater Simplicity
Observe the colour and note the result!
Ready-to-use medium
Specific chromogenic media for MRSA
Culture + isolation + identification on the same medium

*For more details see the technical sheet. Negative results must be read after an additional incubation of 18-24 hrs. If this is the case confirm S. aureus species.
