Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: - Discuss the importance of a responsive microbial monitoring program for compendial water systems
- Explain the various methods of bacteria enumeration and selection of media, incubation time and temperature
- Compare the various methods for determination of bacterial endotoxin concentration
- Demonstrate proper sampling procedures and laboratory technique for bacteria and bacterial endotoxin determination
- Explain the rationale for establishing bacteria alert and action limits as well as monitoring for undesirable pathogens
- Establish criteria employed for development of a Performance Qualification protocol as well as long term sampling program for bacteria and bacterial endotoxins
- Identify biofilm formation and the control techniques
- Assess system monitoring and maintenance requirements to provide a controlled situation
- Recognize the impact of inadequate microbial control on product quality
